Superheroes and Philippine Politics

We see it happening again and again.

It's on the news, on the blogs, on the radio and on the newspapers. We see our supposed public servants being exposed for what they truly are: lying, cheating bastards who think of themselves before the people, and not the other way around. We see a clan of governors and local politicians convicted for the mass murder of their political rivals and their allies.

We hear about the scams the previous president had kept hidden so well, now finally being unearthed.

We read about the mayor who barely cared for his employees' welfare by not giving them what is due theirs.

All these people seem to believe that they are above the law. In fact they are. In the current political and justice system that we have, justice is only achieved among equals. If the small people are trampled upon by the giants in governement, there is no hope for them. All they can do is hold their head down and run away, wishing and praying that retaliation will not reach them. There is no justice in this country, simply put because no one is willing to dispense them.

But what can we do? Who do we need to rectify this? Answer: Someone who is also above the law because let's face it, the law itself is flawed. Someone who has the best qualities and utmost concern for the good and his fellow men. In short we need a superhero.

You may be laughing now, but consider this: who else can wreak vengeance upon these lords of society? The one person who can fight them is someone who can be above the law but still be able to fight for the good of the people. This person should have considerable resources at his command and this person must have nothing else to lose. This judge must also keep his identity secret so he can continue functioning in his normal duties and to throw off his enemies. This person should not have any stakes in governance, no self-interests to pursue and will not answer to anyone.

Oh Philippine Superhero, where art thou? While the weak sleep in shacks of rotten wood and paper, the mighty grow complacent in their halls knowing that there is no one there to challenge them. You must come and turn the tide. You are our only hope. Answer our call.
